About
Why we're building ScamPrep.
In 2025, Americans over 60 reported more losses to scams than ever before:
- $7.7 billion reported lost, up 59% in a single year
- More than 200,000 complaints filed with the FBI
- $38,000 lost by the average victim, enough to erase years of savings
Behind every one of those numbers is a family, and often a retirement, changed by a single phone call or text.
What struck us was the mismatch. If you've ever received a fake "phishing test" email at work, you've already had scam training that works. For more than a decade, virtually every major company, bank, and government agency has drilled its people against these exact tactics with simulated attacks and in-the-moment coaching. It's a proven playbook with years of evidence behind it.
Meanwhile, the standard offering for the people scammers actually target most is a pamphlet and a one-time seminar whose effect, research shows, fades within a month.
ScamPrep exists to close that gap: to take the most effective training method we know of and finally point it at the people who need it, with the consent, gentleness, and dignity that training someone you love demands.
The founder
ScamPrep is built by Bryce Wachtell. Bryce spent his career in strategy and operations at Google, as a management consultant at Bain & Company, and at an early-stage startup called Gatheround. He turned down business school at Stanford University to build ScamPrep after observing the growing threat of scams in his own community. He builds the way he believes protective products should be built: simple, elegant, research-backed, and unambiguously good for the people they serve.

Our principles
Four commitments we hold ourselves to, in every drill, briefing, and report.
Independence, not surveillance
We don't watch bank accounts or monitor anyone's life. ScamPrep builds the skill that lets people keep confidently handling their own affairs. Empowerment over oversight.
Research-built
Every drill and briefing traces back to published research and to the scams currently being reported to the FBI and FTC. When the evidence changes, the product changes.
Proof over promises
No training can guarantee protection, so we never claim it. Instead we show families measurable progress every quarter, and we make refunds easy when we haven't earned our keep.
Dignity first, consent always
We coach, we never shame. Nobody receives a drill who hasn't personally said yes, and nothing happens behind anyone's back.
